Cecy Castillo, MSc., is a lecturer within the Department of Science and Technology at the University of Belize. She has eleven years working in the Natural Resource Management Program of which she has served as Chair of the Science Department for a term of four years, 2013-2016. During her term as Chair of the Science Department she facilitated the collaboration between UCF and UB by coordinating UCF’s UB campus visits and assisted in the identification of Belizean students to join the Citizen Science GIS team.
She continues to support Citizen Science GIS in her present capacity as lecturer within the Natural Resource Management Program by identifying potential UB students to join the UCF team when in Belize and helps to coordinate the primary school outreach program in the City of Belmopan, Belize. She has a passion to equip the next generation of Belizeans in the area of STEM/STEAM that is necessary for the sustainable development of Belize as well as opening new career opportunities for Belizeans in the global market. She is a member of the micro-plastic research team at the University of Belize but has an overall research interest in marine and coastal ecology and enjoys working with fishing communities in Belize.
