Jana-Elisse Clevenger joins our NSF REU Site!
We are pleased to introduce Jana-Elisse Clevenger, Urban Studies Major, Vassar College. She will be joining our drones and spatial storytelling track in this year's NSF REU Site in Orlando and Belize. Welcome to the team, Jana-Elisse! We can't wait to work with you. Read more about her below in her own words.
My name is Jana-Elisse Clevenger and I am a junior undergraduate student at Vassar College. I am majoring in Urban Studies with a concentration in Geography, minoring in Education. I was introduced to GIS mapping in the U.S. military, as an Intelligence Analyst, and look forward to working with the Citizen GIS team to foster a deeper understanding of how GIS mapping can be used to foster relationships and provide legibility to underrepresented local communities. To be an international community scholar with the UCF REU site means being able to positively impact our currently precarious human/environment relationship through hands-on community-based research. I am very excited to use my current knowledge and what I learn from working with the Citizen GIS team, as well as the local community in Belize, to bring greater awareness to important environmental issues by increasing public understanding of science through shared research experiences.
